Charley's Angels Dog Training

Supporting Skills

While you’re working through the Recall Cue training at home, there are two other skills I want you to start building alongside it:

Auto Check-Ins: teaching your dog to offer you attention without being asked.

Backwards Recall: building lots of easy repetitions of your recall cue while your dog is already moving towards you.

These aren’t separate stages that you need to finish before moving on with your recall training. Start them alongside the early Recall Cue work, then gradually begin incorporating them into your normal walks.

As your dog gets more confident, you’ll practise them in different places and around gradually increasing distractions. You can also use the Recall Games on your walks to build attention, connection and a habit of staying involved with you.

The aim is that all of these skills start becoming part of everyday walks rather than something you only practise in a training session.
