Taking it off lead
Once your dog is coming back well around the things you’ve practised, you can start thinking about giving them more freedom in suitable places.
But finishing the programme doesn’t automatically mean your dog is ready to go off lead everywhere.
Recall is never going to be 100%.
Dogs aren’t robots.
A smell might suddenly be far more interesting than usual.
Another dog might appear.
Something unexpected might happen.
The aim isn’t to create a dog who comes back perfectly every single time in every possible situation.
The aim is to build such a strong habit of coming back that returning to you is usually the easiest and most rewarding choice.
